There are many reasons why so many smart patients have evaluated their uterine cavity prior to IVF. Here are some of the reasons
- Chronic Endometritis – inflammation of the uterine lining
- Polyps ( see page on Polyps)
- Fibroids (see page on Fibroids)
- Any other obstructions or problems blocking the pathway to the egg or implantation
There are three methods of checking the uterus.
- HSG (X-ray)
- Saline Ultrasound
- Hysteroscopy (camera go in)
Diagnosis of Inflamation
- Testing Blood to check blood count and presence of bacteria or inflammatory conditions
- Swab – taking a sample of the culture in the cervic to check for bacteria or disease
- Discharge test – discharge taken to a microscope to check for inflamation
- Biopsy – small sample of the lining is taken
- Laparoscopy or hysteroscopy to look into the uterus
Treatment
Once your doctor determined what caused your uterus inflammation, you may be prescribed with antibiotics.
